Topic: Leisure and the National Economy & the People’s Livelihood

There are two important things happened or will happen in China in 2008: the Beijing Olympic Games, and the adjustment of holiday policy in China. These two events signal that leisure is becoming an indispensable part of living and working for Chinese people.

As a general social cultural phenomenon, leisure has appealed more and more attention from people in China. The essence of emphasizing on leisure is to improve the progress of social and civilization with the help of culture guide, and humanistic consideration, and it is the new milestone for the renaissance of Chinese civilization.

Leisure, for individuals, emphasizes and pay attention to the quality of life and living, and it is the source of happiness as well.

With regard to the society, leisure is an important dimension of public policy, economic policy, and it is also a basis for building a harmonious society.

For different levels of government, leisure can be used as a means of management policies and a way of thinking about serving the wellbeing of the people; it will change the government from management oriented by means of economy administration, scientific technology, and legislation to service oriented.

For social labors, leisure can influence people’s moral education directly or indirectly; it can train the ability and interests of people in different ways to increase the value of life and the value of creativity for individuals.

It is a new perspective to pay attention to leisure in national plan and people’s wellbeing. We welcome any knowledgeable people to take part in the discussion on this topic.

Leisure and the National Economy & the People’s Livelihood

2. The purpose of the topic

Focusing on leisure phenomena in the national economy and the people’s livelihood, the changes in people’s view on the value of leisure during the phase of social transformation, theories and practices related to leisure as a new social cultural phenomenon. The purpose of this topic is to pave a way for academic study, to appeal wellbeing for people’s livelihood, to take responsibility for the society, and to shed lights on people’s mind.

（2）How to submit?

1.Please send your paper electronically to: xueshuchu2008@163.com, and notify: “2008 Annually Leisure Academic Conference paper.”

2.Registration is verified by submitting the abstract of the paper

（3）Evaluation of the paper

The Academic Committee of the conference will evaluate the papers received, and the excellent papers will be published in “Leisure Study” sponsored by the Committee of Philosophy of Leisure. The book will be published by Higher Education Press, and certificates will be awarded to the excellent papers.

8. Other related issues

Issues on time for registration, place of the conference, fares, and accommodations, etc. will be explained with another notice. People who hand in their abstracts will be informed by email to attend the conference.
